BAMBINI

Viaggiare con i propri figli è stato sempre considerato un problema da molti genitori, ma in realtà molte delle difficoltà ipotizzate sono più degli adulti che non dei giovani viaggiatori. Il consiglio principale è quello di cercare di non stravolgere la loro vita e cercare mantenere alcune delle loro abitudini. Inoltre è consigliabile pianificare il viaggio anche in base alle loro esigenze, inserendo ad esempio un numero adeguato di soste, per trasformarlo in un’esperienza divertente e istruttiva. Saltare un museo non troppo interessante per loro ed inserire una sosta in un’area giochi se sono piccini o magari semplicemente scegliere un museo per loro più stimolante con ad esempio molte mostre interattive.
Ecco alcuni piccoli consigli.

In aereo

Arrivare in aeroporto con un certo anticipo per far fronte a eventuali piccoli contrattempi e portare il passeggino fino all'ingresso dell'aeromobile (chiedere indicazioni al check-in). In volo farli bere frequentemente e camminare per almeno qualche minuto ogni ora. Nei lunghi viaggi per passare il tempo può essere utile portare qualche piccolo gioco, un libro da leggergli, dei fogli di carta per farlo disegnare o un tablet, da usare con moderazione. Nelle fasi di decollo e di atterraggio dar loro caramelle da succhiare. Portare eventuali medicinali di emergenza nel bagaglio a mano.

Le difficoltà

Alcune piccole difficoltà riguardano gli spostamenti, in particolare gli ingressi delle stazioni della metropolitana che a New York sono spesso senza ascensore e scale mobili ed è quindi preferibile essere in due adulti. Le piattaforme della metro sono molto affollate e nelle stazioni più grandi i binari si trovano su entrambi i suoi lati, fare quindi attenzione. I marciapiedi a Manhattan sono molto larghi ma decisamente affollati nelle ore di punta, le cosiddette rush hours, camminare di lato cercando rimanere fuori dal flusso veloce dei pedoni. Ci sono poi alcuni ristoranti, in particolare quelli lussuosi, e alcuni bed & breakfast che non ammettono bambini, è quindi consigliabile telefonare in anticipo per chiedere se vengono accettati.

Chinatown: Columbus Park Playgroung (Worth St. & Baxter St.), Little Italy, Desalvio Playground (Spring St. & Mulberry St.).
SoHo: Children's Museum Of The Arts.
East Village: Lower East Side Tenement Museum.
Midtown West: FDNY Fire Zone (vicino Radio City Music Hall), Radio City Tour, Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum.
Midtown East: Empire State Building, NY Skyride, Grand Central Terminal, New York Public Library, Bryant Park, Rockefeller Plaza, Top of the Rock, Sony Wonder Technology Lab, Madison Square Park (il playground è all'angolo tra Madison Ave. & 26th St.).
Theater District: Times Square, The New Victory Theater, Madame Tussaud’s, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, Hershey’s Times Square.
West Side: American Museum of Natural History, Children’s Museum of Manhattan, Lincoln Center.
East Side: Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tramway to Roosevelt Island.
Central Park: Central Park Zoo, Victorian Gardens, Wollman Ice Skating Rink, Heckscher Playground, Billy Johnson Playground, Ride the carousel, Conservatory Water, Boating on the lake, Rent bikes, Belvedere Castle, Swedish Cottage Marionette
Playgrounds: Adventure Playground (W. 67th St. at Central Park West), Diana Ross Playground (81st St. and Central Park West), Ancient Playground (E. 84th St. and Fifth Ave.), East 72nd St. Playground (E. 72nd St. and Fifth Ave.), Pat Friedman Hoffman Playground (E. 79th St. and Fifth Ave.), or the Ross Pinetum Playground, on the northwest corner of the Great Lawn, with lots of swings and picnic tables.
