PUBLIC TOILETS
In New York there are “public restrooms” in museums, shopping malls, department stores, major transport stations such as Grand Central Terminal, Pennsylvania Station and Port Authority Bus Terminal. With a little discretion you can use those in the halls of large hotels and those of large bookstores such as Barnes & Noble. Even public parks have toilets, a list can be found on the website of the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation although in this case the cleaning is not so accurate. There are also specialized sites such as

If you are thinking of using the bathrooms of chains such as McDonald's or Starbucks, you should consider purchasing a product because they have become rather restrictive and the toilets are reserved for customers only.
