THE NYC NUMBERS
The coordinates of New York are 40°42’45.72’’ N, 74°0’21.24’’ W.
It covers an area of about 789 square kilometers which reaches 1,214 square kilometers considering also sea and rivers. It is divided into five boroughs: Bronx of 110 square kilometers, Brooklyn of 180 square kilometers, Manhattan of 59 square kilometers, Queens of 280 square kilometers and Staten Island of 152 kmq. More than 150 square kilometers of the urban area are used as parks and playgrounds, including the 341 hectares of Central Park. The official population is 8,550,405 inhabitants (2015), but reaches 16 million if the residents are added to the unregistered inhabitants and workers who reach the city every day. In addition, the city is visited by many tourists, in 2015 were about 60 million.
New York City has 6,340 miles (10,080 Km) of roads and 788 between more or less large bridges and tunnels. There are also 12,000 traffic lights and 1.3 million road signs.
There are three airports, J. F. Kennedy, La Guardia and Newark (the latter despite being in New Jersey is practically a New York airport) where 70,000 people work and where in 2015 122.7 million passengers have transited.
The subway network is very extensive, with 23 lines, 469 stations and 660 miles (1,056) of tracks on which 6,407 carriages pass carrying an average of 5.7 million passengers on a working day, for a total of 1 billion 763 million in total in 2015.
There are also 214 museums, 244 skyscrapers over 150 m. and another 40 under construction and 25,992 catering outlets.
