This brownstone is a reproduction of the house where Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States (1901-1909), was born on October 27, 1858 and where he lived until the age of 14. The original brownstone of 1840 was demolished in 1916 to make room for a new building. In 1919, after the death of Theodore Roosevelt, the building was purchased by his family, who had a replica of the original house rebuilt, and in 1923 it was opened to the public as a museum. The interiors reproduce those of the President’s adolescence and the main bedroom, where Roosevelt was born, is furnished with the original furniture.
The lower floor houses a small exhibition that can be visited freely while the upper floors can only be accessed with a guided tour that starts approximately every hour.
