The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture is a library, part of the New York Public Library, recognized as one of the leading institutions that focuses exclusively on African-American experiences and people of African origin around the world.
Its initial collection was based on the collection of Arturo Alfonso Schomburg, historian, writer and activist who over the years collected works of art and fiction of African slaves and other material on African history.
His extensive collection of over 10 million objects includes works of art and crafts, rare books and manuscripts, prints, photographs and videos.
The Centre consists of three connected buildings: the Schomburg Building, the Langston Hughes Building and the Landmark Building.
