The small Central Park Zoo was built in 1934, covers an area of about 6.5 hectares and is an integral part of the other three zoos and the New York Aquarium managed by the Wildlife Conservation Society. In 1980 it was renovated to create natural habitats for the animals housed and now there are three main exhibition areas representing the main climatic areas: tropical, temperate and polar. There are among other things an indoor rainforest, a penguin house and a swimming pool for polar bears where there are currently two Grizzly bears. There is also a 4-D theater and programs organized for groups divided by age.
